PLAYLIST 2: POV: You’re dreaming and forgot how math works

Listen to Playlist 2 on Spotify

Let these math-otical works put you into a trance.

Admittedly, not all of these are heavy math pieces, some of them have dreamy math vibes. With every playlist I am introduced to new ensembles, works, and composers, and I hope that my aural journey influences yours. As a composer, I have to acknowledge and share exceptional collections of notes when I hear them. A blog post will accompany (on the kazoo) each playlist so you have direct access to artist websites and more places to buy or listen to albums.

  1. Cosmic Angeles by Chaz Knapp. Album: Setting Fire to These Dark Times. Album review by A Closer Listen. To be honest, I originally thought the title was “Cosmic Angles” which would make more sense with a math theme, but its not, its just “Angeles”. The music fits, so the track stays.
  2. Knee 3 by Philip Glass performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble (yes, they are actively touring). Album: Einstein on the Beach.
  3. Partita for 8 Voices 1. Allemande by Caroline Shaw performed by Room Full of Teeth. Album: Partita for 8 Voices This piece won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013.
  4. Digital Dances No 3 by Marco Schirripa performed by Heartland Marimba. Album: Digital Dances
  5. Narayana’s Cows by Tom Johnson performed by Ensemble Klang. Album: Cows, Chords & Combinations. If you want to know more about the math
  6. Transform Forever by Holland Andrews. Album: Forgettings
  7. Les Moutons de Panurge by Frederic Rzewski performed by eighth blackbird. Album: fred This one is included thanks to a very loose counting sheep reference (mouton = sheep in French).
